As such, an honor system is central to our course; our shared learning and classroom experiences depend on self-governance. A student found in violation of Stetson’s Honor System will fail the course.
Course Objectives
- Provide an overview of core conceptual frameworks of management theory.
- Explore contemporary issues in management practices.
- Examine managerial structures, systems, interactions and implications.
- Assess linkages between the individual, groups, and systems dynamics as determinants of managerial effectiveness.
- Apply theoretical concepts to managerial processes and practices in the workplace.
- Analyze personal behaviors influencing managerial performance and effectiveness.
Team Projects
Each participant will be assigned to a team and expected to complete a contemporary business research paper relevant to the field of management or managerial competencies. Teams will present their findings to the class. Details of the project will be discussed and posted on Blackboard.

The requirements of the course are (tentatively) weighted as follows:

Team Facilitation Project 20%
Class/Team Contribution 10%
Team Final Examination 10%
Final course grades will be assigned as follows:
93–100% A
90–92.9% A-
87–89.9% B+
83–86.9% B
80–82.9% B-
77–79.9% C+
73–76.9% C
70–72.9% C-
60–69.9% D
Below 60% F

1 = Was this person supposed to be in my team?
2 = Poor attendance. Little or no cooperation.
3 = Missed several meetings, but contributed when possible.
4 = Good cooperation. Attended meetings regularly.
5 = Superior cooperation. Never missed a meeting. A real team leader.
Attitude & Enthusiasm
1 = A real downer. This person’s attitude negatively affected team development and project completion.
2 = Not interested in contributing. Showed little enthusiasm throughout the project.
3 = As enthusiastic as could be expected.
4 = Generally good attitude. Tried to maintain enthusiasm throughout project.
5 = Positive Attitude. Always enthusiastic about the project and team. Lifted the spirit of the team.
Sensitivity & Respect for Others
1 = Trounced upon others, providing undeserved harsh criticism.
2 = Needs to look up Sensitivity in the dictionary.
3 = Lost sensitivity when the going got tough.
4 = Sensitive to others, providing constructive criticism when needed.
5 = Clearly respected the feelings of others and took a leadership role in managing team conflict.
Work Load (Quantity & Quality)
1 = Did little or no work. A real slacker.
2 = Willing to do the minimum, but nothing more.
3 = Contributed an equal share to the work of the team and submitted decent quality work.
4 = Did more than his/her fair share and submitted high quality work.
5 = Carried the majority of the workload and did a great job.
